Human Art on Mars (HAM)
Proposal for Human Art on Mars (HAM) - a drawing in the sand on another planet.
I propose that a human hand is drilled on the surface of Mars via InSight Lander’s robotic arm (since this lander seized functioning any robotic drill can be used, like the robotic arm on the Perseverance rover).
The hand is the oldest art of humankind and a symbol of our civilization. Hands were painted by blowing pigment onto the walls of caves to create handprints more than 37,000 years ago.
My blueprint for life came from the science fiction novels I had been reading throughout my childhood and as a young adult. I wanted an epic life with adventures, possibly in space.
I grew up with Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, with Isaac Asimov’s stories, with Arthur C Clarke’s novels, and Star Wars movies.
On the right - Red ochre hand stencils in the Cave of El Castillo (c.37,300 BCE). These markings are some of the earliest art of the Upper Paleolithic.
On the left - Proposal for Human Art on Mars (HAM). I propose that a human handprint is drilled on the surface of Mars by a robotic arm with a drill.
Feasibility:
Robotic Arms are already drilling on Mars. We can make several drills to form a hand.
Two birds with one stone - the Robotic Arms are already drilling, they could drill in a drawing pattern. Make art while also doing science.
Yes, we can make it look like a hand, if Minecraft can do it so can we.
Get humankind excited about both science and art.
