Series of Installations in Central Park, 2021
Remember Summer Tree Hugs is a series of minimalist installations in Central Park. The work is created to complement the Old Masters colors of the park with streaks of red, orange, yellow, and blue. It is an independent project, created without the endorsement of the park. Remember Summer Tree Hugs looks back to summer and cannot wait for spring.
The installations are inspired by the colors of Central Park at this time of year and by the fire ladders scattered around the park, which seemed to invite me to splash color here and there. I was quietly following certain trees that look incredibly honest and beautiful in this season. If you look at a Rembrandt painting you will see the same colors, except for vermilion, yellow, and ultramarine, which at this time of year are hidden in the feathers of the birds.
The colors, the shapes, and the fire ladders inspired me to create a few minimal interventions that will return next week, just in time for spring. I love working in the park. It is incredibly beautiful and it is also full of culture, a mix of New York City street life, the neighborhood cultures of the Upper East Side and the Upper West Side, the cultures of the performers, the drum circles, the musicians, the bubble guy, the museum crowd, the Boathouse crowd, the joggers, the bikers, the boarders, and the skaters.
As for myself, if Christo, Marina Abramovic, and Dali made a triangle, I would sit in the middle.
