Bulgarian Christmas
Collaborative painting performance, 2011.
In 2011 I invited my artist friends to my Brooklyn apartment for Christmas and told them it is a Bulgarian tradition to paint on the walls for food.
I set up bond paper on the walls and provided markers, pastels, colored pencils, charcoal, and ink, as well as ink brushes. Lighting was red light bulbs and Christmas lights.
This performance is inspired by Exquisite Corpse from the 1920s and the Art Happenings from the 1960s. Based on my previous work with the women artists group Absurdas in San Francisco.
